Are you a man struggling with energy, brain fog, libido, strength retention, mood swings? Whilst there can be a range of causes, one possibility worth exploring is hormonal balance, in particular low testosterone.
If your hormone levels are imbalanced enough, this could explain a range of issues you experience. It is an important area to check out as treatment is available and can be quite successful. If you find there are no hormone issues after all, at least you will have ruled it out.
The hormone journey for men in the UK can be a difficult one to traverse. Primarily because much of the advice given by healthcare establishments is outdated and incorrect. You only have to search on “NHS testosterone problems” to find a wealth of stories where people have been turned away, only to persist with more open minded private clinics and turn their lives around. That is not to say there are not open minded and progressive practitioners in the NHS. There are and they can be very positive forces for supporting male hormonal health. But they are rare. A combination of NICE guidelines and very outdated training in the primary care and endocrinology sectors make for a very entrenched and shaming culture out there. People are turned away frequently being told they have no problem worth considering.
The effect can be devastating. We have been conditioned to defer to the experts. In some areas they are indeed highly proficient, however that of men and testosterone in the UK and other countries is sorely lacking.
There are quality private clinics around, all licenced to help. Whilst it might seem as simple as making contact and getting a diagnosis, in reality it can be a hard path to tread. There is a lot more complexity under the surface. A societal shame about masculinity and testosterone itself being seen in a bad light. Personal issues might arise with feelings of having failed in some way or being defective as a man. Yet statistics of recent years point to a growing trend in imbalanced hormones in all humans. There is conjecture as to causes, such as environmental toxins, but nothing yet conclusive.
Many reasons can lie behind an imbalanced endocrine system, and with the general healthcare sector being lacklustre in it’s support and definitive research yet to be performed, we are left in this present day period with men who are living very impaired lives and shamed into putting up with it. I have experience in helping people challenge the narrative. I can help you explore your physical and mental health in the context of male hormones and find the path that is right for you. Medical treatment may or may not be the right option, there are so many considerations. There are well renowned clinics who will help with testing and expert advice on whether medication is the best course. I can offer guidance on how to navigate the questions of your own intimate health and life quality, and help you find the way to better health.
I have travelled my own journey with hormone imbalance. I experienced physical trauma during sexual abuse in my childhood. This created a substandard ability to produce testosterone, which reached real problem levels in my 40s. Fortunately I am a very determined person and used to challenging doctrine. I have succeeded in educating myself and seeking professional help from understanding clinicians who have been in the field for many years. For me, who had genuine problems of brain fog and fatigue, it has been transformational. If I had taken the word of the health service and indeed private endocrinologists that there were no significant problems, my health would have declined to the point where I would have likely lost my physical vitality, health, and been unable to work. That is the difference, you have a right to a self sufficient quality of life, as do I!
If you are a man who feel like you would like support on this journey, do get in touch. My primary field is trauma therapy and that meshes well with helping people to navigate the emotional rollercoaster of male hormone health.
